Architect Phillip Braun has spent five years in prison for a crime he did not commit. In fact, the crime was committed by building contractor Lasky, who Phillip had been working with. Lasky had framed him. But David Reinelt, Phillip’s friend and lawyer, was unable to prove this in court.

Phillip gets fired and returns home to his wife, Lisa, and Timmie, his 11-year-old son. He tries to get his bearings again in a life he had been dreaming of for such a long time. But life has moved on during his absence, and it isn’t easy for him to find his feet. Affected by his time in prison, he confronts new things with increasing mistrust.

There is the new flat that Lisa has since rented, the reserve he encounters from his son, and then there is the suspicion that Lasky has been stirring up in him. Is Lisa having an affair with his friend David? Phillip becomes increasingly obsessed with the idea, overlooking or misinterpreting all evidence of Lisa’s love for him. He becomes imprisoned by his feelings until he meets David and “liberates” himself by killing his friend in an impulsive act.

But there is a witness to this deed. Lasky. And now Phillip sees that he is faced with another threat. Lisa suspects him of having murdered David and when Lasky attempts to blackmail him, Phillip sees only one way out of the situation…
