Edith (Angela Winkler) wants a better world. For this she fights – in public with political commitment and at home in her diary with the weapon of her imagination. Reality looks different than Edith describes it in her diary. Paul (Vadim Glowna), her husband, leaves her. Chris (Leopold von Verschuer), her son, develops into an alcoholic. Uncle Georg (Hans Madin), old and sickly, whom Paul has brought into the house, remains a nursing case for Edith until the end. From this environment Edith flees more and more frequently into the safe, cheerful world of her diary – which she gradually confuses with reality. She wants to save Chris, who himself has long abandoned “normality”, from the threat of forced admission to a psychiatric hospital through his love. But Ediths fate decides differently…
