Early 90s, in a small border town in the east of Turkey. Mihram (Tayanc Ayaydim), a dedicated merchant, is famous for procuring everything his customers ask for. Where from, that remains its secret: Where does the moon get its light from? But small shops can’t make big money, and Mihram has trouble making ends meet for his family. Mihram’s latest idea also threatens to fail because of a lack of capital: The telephone company continues to penetrate the East with its mobile phone network, and radio masts are being erected everywhere. In Ezren, it is said, mobile phones are already selling like hot cakes. But the sales license is expensive, prohibitively expensive, and the prices, as Mihram has to find out, are not negotiable: fixed by the head office … Then unexpectedly the doctor of the local hospital shows up at Mihram and entrusts him with a large sum of money to get an important vaccine. Mihram sees his chance: Why not make a lucrative deal with the hospital money beforehand? And then what his wife Elif (Senay Aydin) is so proud of, getting the medicine without commission for the sake of the good cause?
Both can be accomplished with the help of his good-natured and lachrymose uncle Fazil (Genco Erkal) across the border. The plan is perfect, everything is prepared. But Mihram hasn’t considered two things: the local mafia, which follows his every move attentively and only too willingly wants to know where the moon gets its light from; and the relentless laws of a market that is changing more and more. Supply and demand…
